In my artistic practice, I’m curious and driven by the study of the independent lives of family with an emphasis on animal companionship within the interior. I find excitement in capturing intimate moments and simple joys in a setting of comfort. I animate subjects through movement and motion, helping personify their character and attitude. Similarly, playing with illusions that combine the physicality of the work helps the mind assume and interpret elements of play within a grander story. Through this mobility, the pieces develop a sense of energy switching between the dynamic and restful, creating space for familiarity for the viewer. Additionally, I question and explore the impact and sense of belonging an interior space can have without the addition of the figure, further helping define universal themes within space. Through my use of perspective, color and light, my work brings the viewer into the art, creating a sense of versatile remembrance and contemplative narrative, emphasizing the spirit of my work.
My paintings exemplify the love I have for the use of oil on canvas through the use of intuitive strokes generating both graphically and organically. The medium illuminates the gritty and visceral experience of the moment that is being captured. My creative process involves the traditional “slow and steady” as I spend most of my time developing every inch of each piece into a unified record. More specifically, my love of color and texture through the didactic processes of wiping pigment from canvas comes forth through the base colors unveiling, exposing a hidden world found two dimensionally. Recently, I have begun to explore similar themes through repurposed textiles, narrowing in on the historical familiar value since the mediums lose of purpose. Through both of these materials, I aim to share how interiors and the mundane are more than singular and stagnant but as affectionate, vibrant, and full of life.
