Danielle Shumskas (b. 2003) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She received her BFA in Painting from Pratt Institute (2025). She has exhibited her work in various venues, including Pratt Institute Galleries in Brooklyn and the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy. Additionally, she has participated as an Artist-in-Residence at the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild, sponsored by Pratt Institute. Her paintings are created through different forms of introspection on family and homelife, using mindfulness to measure the passage of time. She also explores the illusions of light and movement to enhance her artistic practice.
In her artistic practice, she focuses on the independent lives of families, particularly highlighting animal companionship within domestic settings. Her paintings showcase her passion for using oil on canvas through intuitive strokes that are both graphic and organic. In these works, themes of movement, pattern, illusion, and realism are being employed as a tool to further her practice. She aims to convey that interiors and everyday experiences are not merely singular and stagnant; they are affectionate, vibrant, and full of life.
